ALT, for which I work part time, has announced the title Rethinking the digital divide for its 2008 conference, to be held in Leeds, between 8 and 10 September 2008, and issued a call for people to volunteer for membership of the conference programme committee. This is reproduced in full in the continuation post below.
Call for Programme Committee members for ALT-C 2008
1. The Association for Learning Technology's 2008 conference, ALT-C 2008, will be held in Leeds, UK, 8 to 10 September 2008. The co-chairs, Dr Jill Jameson (Greenwich University, UK) and Dr John Sandars (University of Leeds, UK), and ALT's Trustees, are seeking Programme Committee (PC) members to take an active part in planning the programme, reviewing papers and chairing sessions at the conference. We encourage applications from all areas of education, particularly from further education and adult and community learning, from industry, and and from outside the UK.
2. The theme for ALT-C 2008 will be "Rethinking the digital divide". ALT-C 2008 will explore the complex dichotomies presented by learning technologies to citizens, learning providers, and society. The conference will extend the debate over the 'digital divide', providing a forum for practitioners, researchers and policy-makers to develop their thinking and practice.
3. To learn more about ALT and ALT-C see http://www.alt.ac.uk/.
4. PC members must be able to commit, during March and April 2008, to:
- reviewing at least 15 abstracts/ short proposals for sessions and/or
- refereeing at least 2 research papers.
5. Attendance at PC meetings (usually only two) is desirable but not essential. The first committee meeting will be held in November 2007. The second meeting takes place over 24 hours (lunchtime to lunchtime) and is likely to be held in April 2008 (dates tbc). Reasonable travel, accommodation, and subsistence expenses will be met. PC members are entitled to a discount on the conference fee. All attending PC members are expected to chair some sessions at the conference.
6. To express an interest, send a *plain text* email to Hayley Willis - h.willis@brookes.ac.uk - with the subject "ALT-C 2008 PC application".
Include your _full address_ and brief details of your:
a) reviewing/refereeing experience
