I'm very sorry to read about the tragic death of your nephew. It seems to me investigating and campagining on issues like (ie ones that touch us unexpectedly and with huge impact) is one way to help make the world a better place and to make some sense out of the loss. I hope you make headway in your submission to thie enquiry.

I am truly sorry for your loss. I think the recommendations set out above do reflect what is needed in the transport industry to prevent similar tragedies happening again. Education is, as mentioned above an important factor to changing attitudes. There is now a mandatory requirement for drivers to undergo ongoing training. Part of the training syllabus covers sleep awareness and well-being of drivers. This is being introduced through EU Directive 2003/59. Drivers are also subject the Drivers hours, which means they can only drive for certain periods. Education is a key factor. I wish you well with your campaign.
